Project Management Assistant – Internship

Essex Youthbuild, Chelmsford

 Full time Monday to Friday – 8.30am to 4.30pm

 An exciting intern opportunity has arisen working for Essex Youthbuild, a Chelmsford-based education and training charity working with disadvantaged young people from across Essex aged 11-19.  This position is ideal for someone interested in gaining experience in the charity sector, working with young people and project management.

 This paid internship, funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation, will run for one year from September 2019 and will be remunerated at the London living wage rate (£20,573 per annum).  This post includes funded training opportunities.

 Key Duties:

  • Working with administrative staff and tutors to prepare materials for courses.

  • Involvement in project identification, research, design, costing and budgeting, funding, monitoring delivery, evaluation and presentation of project outcomes – the entire project management cycle.

  • Working with fundraising officer/CEO to identify and research new projects of benefit to young people at Essex Youthbuild.

  • Alongside management, responsible for collecting data on current projects, collating statistics, eliciting feedback from young people and using this data to monitor and evaluate ongoing projects.

  • Assist in production of end of grant reports.

  • Assisting in progression of Essex Youthbuild students through help with applications, CVs, and conducting exit interviews.

  • Working with fundraising officer and team on small grant proposals.

  • Researching, developing and implementing a digital strategy for Essex Youthbuild to include a digital donation platform via the website and further developing Essex Youthbuild’s social media strategy.

  • Administrative support to the team.

 Person Specification:


  • Interest in a career in the third sector and working with young people.

  • IT literate and competent in Microsoft Office. Able to work with digital platforms such as websites and social media.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.

  • Educated to at least ‘A’ level standard.

  • Self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic and with a positive outlook.

  • Keen to learn new skills and gain experience as well as share ideas and contribute.

  • Able to work to deadlines.

  • Reliable, patient, flexible and with a mature outlook.

  • Ability to act as a positive role model for young people.



  • Interest in project management

  • Knowledge of web page software packages and ability to run a website
